Maybrey Reliance specialises in sand and gravity die casting in aluminium, copper-based alloys and ferrous alloys. They work with many industries including aerospace, construction, engineering as well as art installations.
Maybrey Reliance traces its roots to 1839, when George England founded the Hatcham Iron Works in New Cross, South London, initially producing screwjacks and weaving machines before turning to railway locomotives — one of which, Little England, won a Gold Medal at the Great Exhibition of 1851. Still a family run business, the Maybrey Reliance foundry operates from a single production unit in Kent specialising in sand and die castings for a wide range of industries, from aerospace and defence to art and design.
"I had been aware of this foundry for a while, through lighting designer Kathleen Hills. Her parents founded Maybrey - one of London’s last remaining die and sand casting foundries and it is still family run with three generations still involved with the day to day running of the business. It's an impressive operation at their new site in Kent with a wide range of clients visiting the day I was there. It was a nice surprise to see Nigel in one of the back workrooms - we had met at Stone Foundries, the famous site in Woolwich which Nigel helped dismantle after its closure."
